Pregnant with my third child, one may think I have everything I need. Well, okay I technically do. But, I’m eyeing so many new baby products that didn’t exist when we were expecting our first baby five years ago. Some provide more convenience than the products we currently have, and some are just so darn cute that I can’t resist!
Play Mat
I really want to check out The Play Gym by Lovevery. It’s developed by child development experts, has five different developmental play zones. twenty-four different activities, it looks nice and it converts to a play fort for toddlers! This is definitely on my wishlist! I already have a perfectly good activity mat, but I’m a sucker for new baby products! If this is out of your budget, or not quite your style, check out some more of my favorite baby play mats.
Update: I received this as a gift for Baby #3 and I am in love! This playmat is just as perfect as I expected. It’s not only super functional with many developmental activities, but it looks fantastic in my home… it basically doubles as a piece of modern art π
Activity Center / Activity Table
A new activity center that converts to an activity table. Our current one is a clunky loud ginormous piece of plastic. Since we got that, several new, better-looking ones have been released. I’m currently torn between the Skip Hop Explore and More and the Evenflo 2-in-1 Activity Center and Activity Table. Probably leaning towards the first one. If neither of these is quite your style, there are so many other great activity centers for your baby.
Bottle Drying Rack
I do love our Boon Lawn Countertop Bottle Drying Rack, but I’m intrigued by the space-saving nature of the OXO Tot Space Saving Drying Rack. With three kids, saving space is key! Even if you plan to breastfeed exclusively, you will still benefit from a bottle drying rack! Sometimes you’ll want to get out of the house without your baby, so pumping and bottles will be necessary! If you are primarily bottle feeding, or have more than one child using bottles, I’d probably stick with the Boon Lawn Countertop Bottle Drying Rack. Vibrating Soother
After suffering through torture that is a baby with extreme colic, I’m already trying to plan ahead and get multiple items to soothe an upset baby. This is what I really want, but it is way far outside of my budget, so I’ll have to settle for some more affordable ways to soothe a potentially-colic baby. I’m looking at the Halo Snoozypod Vibrating Bedtime Soother to put under baby’s crib mattress, or the portable, vibrating Tranquilo Mat.
Update: I am going back and forth on purchasing the Snoozypod. Baby #3 is a horrible sleeper and she would likely sleep better with it, but it isn’t cheap and she will be my last baby. I’m on the lookout for a used one right now to save some money.
Baby Video Monitor
We currently use the Foscam Pro Pan/Tilt Camera for our baby monitor. I love that we can access the camera using our iPhone from anywhere. I also love that I can move the camera remotely, take pictures and video and talk to my kids through the app on my phone. But I would also love if there was a monitor that we could use around the house to view the baby, instead of always relying on our phones. Project Nursery has come out with a few baby monitors. They just released the Dual Connect Wi-Fi Baby Monitor. It has a phone app and a 5″ touchscreen monitor!

Okay, so those are the items I REALLY want. But there are so many more that I would love to have for Baby #3. Keep reading to learn about other awesome products that are new (or new to me!) since I created a baby registry 5 years ago.
Monitoring β’ I am a worrier. This is magnified tremendously when it comes to my newborn and the risks of SIDS (and the accompanying postpartum hormones). The Owlet Smart Sock Monitor just might allow me to worry less, and sleep more. It tracks your baby’s heart rate and oxygen levels, and notifies you if something is wrong.
Sleep β’ I have so many swaddles and sleepsacks, but the Nested Bean Zen Classic Swaddle is intriguing. Often a baby is comforted by your hand softly resting on her chest. I have a friend who filled a latex glove with rice, tied it closed, and rested it on his baby’s chest so she would sleep through the night. This swaddle has a gentle weight built in on the chest to mimic your touch.
White Noise β’ With my first two kids, we just used an old iPhone (in airplane mode) to play white noise when baby needed to sleep while we were out. This time, I’d love a portable white noise machine that is compact, rechargeable, cute and plays consistent white noise. This one meets all those criteria!
Bath β’ The Bath Damn Bathtub Divider will help conserve water when we just have one toddler taking a bath in the full-sized tub.
On-the-Go β’ We have the original Ergobaby carrier and I love it. But the Ergobaby Omni 360 is even more fantastic. The newer model allows for baby to face out when carried on your front. There is a detachable storage pouch for carrying your keys or phone. This is KEY because you don’t want to carry a bag when you are carrying your baby!!!
Bottles β’ So many bottles do the same thing, and they all serve the same purpose. But some have extra convenience or style or parents. This time I’m going to stock up on Lifefactory Bottles, because I want to use more glass (and less plastic) and Comotomo bottles because they are silicone (non-plastic and non-breakable!). These aren’t that new (I don’t think), but I didn’t know about them five years ago when I was preparing for my first baby. Check out this Baby Bottle Buying Guide for more on these, and other, bottles.
Breastfeeding β’ There are two breastfeeding products I want this time around!
βββThe Haakaa can be used like a manual pump, or just to catch milk leaking from one breast while you feed on the other. If you attach it to one breast while feeding on the other, it will catch all the milk that leaks and ultimately goes to waste otherwise.
Update: I got this with Baby #3 and it is so awesome, especially in those first few weeks of breastfeeding when you leak so much from the other side! I saved so much extra milk because of it!
βββI spent several hours a day breastfeeding my babies, and much of that time was also spent texting or scrolling on my phone. Recently, I’ve become more aware (and slightly paranoid) about radiation and EMFs. The Belly Armour Nursing Cover is lined with radiation shielding fabric that will protect baby from wireless radiation.
Diaper Changing Convenience β’ With the third kid, we won’t be changing most diapers at home. I imagine most feedings and diaper changes will be while out running errands, and taking the older kids to school and activities. The Mobile Changing Station from Beanko looks like it will help make on-the-go diaper changes go a little more smoothly.
Books β’ We have plenty of books for the kids, but there are so many more I want! Trust me, you can never have too many books!
